This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

To successfully complete this unit of competency, you must perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) tasks in line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Note:  The Safe Work Australia First Aid Model Code of Practice requires employers to ensure that their nominated first aiders attend training on a regular basis to remain current.  The Code of Practice recommends that refresher training in CPR should be undertaken annually from the date of issue.  First aid qualifications should be renewed every three years from the date of issue to maintain currency.
